She is… was commissioned as a wedding gift to one of my best friends, Kelly Cuppett. When the idea for this piece first came about I asked Kelly what text she wanted me to set and she gave me a few short lines from Proverbs 31 in the Old Testament. I pondered over these lines for months until I came to two conclusions: 1) This was far too little text to turn into a cohesive piece. 2) This piece needed to not only represent a religious message, but also convey the strength within femininity. Kelly often talked about being a feminist and what it truly means to be one, so I knew that I had to portray those ideals within the text and harmonic language in this piece. I decided that this piece should represent the strong and unrelenting person I have come to know over the last seven years.

The text for the piece was arranged by myself. I took the text from the bible verses Kelly had given to me and arranged them, along with a few of my own original lines, to create a more cohesive text to set.
